The Hair Me Institute offers a progressive course of study designed to deepen scholars' understanding of Black hair culture through history, identity, communication, and community.
Rather than offering stand-alone workshops, our educational model is intentionally structured as a pathway of learning. Each level builds upon the knowledge and experiences of the one before it, allowing scholars to grow through increasingly immersive and rigorous study.
Whether you are joining us for your first seminar or continuing toward advanced scholarship, every step is rooted in our commitment to education, cultural preservation, critical thinking, and meaningful dialogue.
90-Minute Interactive Seminar
This introductory seminar serves as the foundation of every scholar's journey at the Hair Me Institute. Through history, storytelling, discussion, and reflection, scholars begin exploring the cultural significance of Black hair while developing the shared understanding that prepares them for future study.
Half-Day Intensive Seminar
Building upon the foundational seminar, scholars engage in a deeper examination of Black hair through the lenses of identity, communication, workplace culture, media representation, and self-expression.
Prerequisite: Foundations of Black Hair Culture
Six-Week Certificate Program
The Institute's signature residency provides an immersive educational experience combining weekly seminars, guided discussion, reflective writing, guest speakers, and collaborative learning. Scholars expand their knowledge while cultivating leadership, cultural awareness, and academic engagement.
Prerequisites: Level I and Level II
The Hair Me Institute is committed to lifelong learning. As the Institute continues to grow, future opportunities for advanced research, fellowship, and scholarly leadership will further expand our academic pathway.
